The story behind HelloVoter
About
HelloVoter was founded by me, Heather Lawver. I’m a single individual registered Independent. I’ve never been involved in politics.
But I’ve always believed that I shouldn’t complain about something unless I’m prepared to do something about it. Thus whenever an opportunity to solve a problem presents itself, if I’m able to make the attempt, I feel honor bound to do so.
That’s how this site came about.
I’ve been frustrated with Obama ever since the Democratic primary back in 2008. As I was conducting my research to determine who to vote for in the presidential election, the more I learned about Barack Obama, the more concerned I became.
Now that we’ve seen in him action as President, I feel my concerns have proven to be well-founded.
I didn’t like the debt under President Bush, I certainly don’t like it under Obama. I didn’t like the radical expansion of federal power under President Bush, but Obama’s doing the exact same thing. The Federal Reserve’s policies of secrecy & manipulation have been left unchecked for far too long, equally endorsed & encouraged by both Bush & Obama. I don’t like the inflation we’re seeing, as prices continue to rise. I honestly feel like if something doesn’t change, our country is facing an imminent financial collapse, on a scale far larger than what we experienced when the housing bubble burst in 2008.
But our problems have always felt so overwhelming that I didn’t think I could do anything about it.
A few days ago, that changed. I was wandering around on Facebook late one night when I came across a photo posted on my friend’s timeline. She had found a brilliant little yellow post-it note that someone had stuck to a gas pump in Georgia. It read simply,
Hey there, Voter!
Do you remember that on Inauguration Day (Jan 20th) 2009, the national average for a gallon of gasoline was about $1.78?
How’s that “Hope & Change” working out for you?”Anybody But Obama
Nov 2012“
Within an instant, it was as if this website popped into my mind, in its entirety. It was so vividly clear that it was if it already existed, I merely needed to pull back the curtain and find it. That short, sweet, simplistic note was so perfectly, succinctly profound. It wrapped up all of the large, overwhelming, complex issues our nation faces, tied them all up in a big bow, and made it instantly understandable.
This nation is on the wrong path. Please, from one voter to another, let’s fix it.
That’s what this website aims to do. I want to promote simple peer-to-peer discussion. I want to remind average everyday voters where we were when we first heard promises of hope & change. I want them to see the stark contrast that presents when compared to where we are today.
Please, I hope you’ll join me.
Because I can’t do this without you.
